Confused and wondering where to find the details?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>Worry not, this blog has got you covered.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Role of the DGFT in India\u2019s international trade policy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For enterprises based in India keen to start an import-export business, they must be cognizant of the regulatory framework and documentation required, international procedures and the foreign and procedure-centric market in India. All import-export activity in India occurs under the governance of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dgft.gov.in\/CP\/?opt=itchs-import-export\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Directorate General of Foreign Trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (DGFT). It is India\u2019s official administrating body for imports and exports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DGFT lays down the Importer Exporter Code (IEC) to legally sanction the purchase or sale of such items. It maintains a record of all the articles that may be imported or exported to India. Any business that fails to comply with the norms stated in DGFT\u2019s list could lead to severe repercussions. The cargo may get stuck at the port of the other country and may attract <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradefinanceglobal.com\/freight-forwarding\/demurrage\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">demurrage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, it is mandatory for every business or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ebizfiling.com\/blog\/how-to-start-trading-business-in-india\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trading company<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that imports and exports goods to and from India must be aware of the items on these lists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many goods are free to be exported without obtaining any licence. Some are banned and some others are canalized, requiring a license, before export. So, the exporter needs to check whether any licence is required before accepting and executing the export order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this blog, we present the items that DGFT has prohibited from being imported\/exported into\/to India. The items stated below have been sourced from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/content.dgft.gov.in\/Website\/Restricted.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schedule 1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the ITC(HS) classifications of Items. However, we advise you to cross-check the list before finalising the import of any item to ensure that it is not present on the list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prohibited items<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses are not permitted to export or import the following items.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pornographic and obscene material<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Counterfeit and pirated goods\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goods infringing the legally enforceable intellectual property rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antiquities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aero models that operate on high radio bandwidths and interfere with the communications networks of security agencies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian coins that are covered by the Antique and Art Treasure Act, 1972<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maps and literature with incorrect external Indian boundaries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemicals stated in Schedule 1 to the Chemical Weapons Convention of U.N. 1993<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wildlife products, such as human skeletons, beef, wild animals, their parts and products, and more<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wood products in the form of logs, timber, pulp and charcoal<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Restricted items<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses can export and import the following goods only with a licence, following the regulations governing in this regard.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Firearms and ammunition<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live birds and animals including pets<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plants and their produce<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Endangered plant and animal species<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goods for commercial purposes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radio transmitters that are not permissible for normal usage<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Importing gold and silver other than ornaments<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currency over prescribed limits<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Telephone and related equipment of restricted frequencies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicines and drugs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Animals, such as cattle, horses and camels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Semi-processed hides and skins<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silkworms, silkworm seeds and cocoons<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Family planning devices without NOC from the Ministry of Health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vintage products, replicas of antiques or weapons<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sand and soil<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whole human blood plasma and certain human blood products<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sandalwood (barring handicraft products and oil)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses can import the Restricted items (as classified in ITC [HS]) only after obtaining an Import license from the relevant Regional Licensing authority. Additionally, they must use Form no. ANF2B (subsequently modify to ANF 2M w.e.f. 18th March 2019) as the application form for Import of Restrict items from DGFT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Canalized items<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canalization of goods means these goods can be imported or exported only through the canalizing agencies, i.e. agencies designated by the Central Government, and not by an individual entity. These agencies include the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation, State Trading Corporation of India, Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canalisation of goods emphasises foreign trade flow rather than ownership of the agency conducting it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canalised exports include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Petroleum products<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gum karaya<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mica waste<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mineral ores, concentrates and compounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Niger seeds<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Onions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canalised imports include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arms\/ammunitions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live or used cartridges<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minerals and metals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crude oil<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you aspire to import and export goods?
